Digital World 2014 – a three-day expo on information technology, will begin in the capital Dhaka from June 4. Digital World will be jointly organized by the Technology Division of the IT ministry and Bangladesh Association of Software and Information Services (BASIS). The venue of the expo will be Bangabandhu International Conference Center.
The organizers are saying this is the biggest technology expo to ever take place in the country.
“This is the first time something so big has been organized in joint efforts of the government and the private sector,” the junior minister said at the press conference.
Palak said one segment of the expo would showcase the government’s IT-based services. “We will showcase the IT-based programmes we have created in the last five year keeping in mind Vision 2021,” he said. “International IT businesses will get to see the skilled workforce and opportunities available in our country. These advantages make our IT sector so lucrative for investment,” he added.
The junior minister said smartphone users had grown from six percent to 24 percent since 2009.
“There are now 43 million mobile internet users in the country.”
Palak said the demand for mobile apps was growing as well. Locally made apps would be showcased at the expo, he said.
The junior minister said fibre optic network would reach every corner of the country by 2018-19.
BASIS chief Russell T Ahmed said the expo would have three components, a soft expo, an e-governance show and a mobile innovation expo.
