Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Sunday called for early construction of a circular road around the capital city and asked the authorities to reclaim the lost parts of Buriganga and other rivers for the project, reports UNB.
The Prime Minister gave the directives while presiding over a meeting on reclamation of all flowing rivers including Buriganga around the capital city and construction of a circular road and a river route.
“This is our project and we will have to implement it,” the Prime Minister told the meeting, according to her Press Secretary AKM Shameem Chowdhury.
Sheikh Hasina underlined the importance of making the rivers pollution-free. She the implementation of the project will help improve environment of Dhaka city.
Roads and Highways Department and Bangladesh Water Development Board will construct a four lane circular road including eastern bypass around Dhaka City with the assistance of Bangladesh Army, the meeting was told.
Prime Minister’s office will coordinate the construction of the circular road.
The Shipping Ministry will launch circular river route that will touch Ashulia, Amin Bazar, Sadarghat, Fatullah- Kanchpur and Tongi, the meeting was told.
Finance Minister Abul Maal Abdul Muhith, Industries Minister Amir Hossain Amu, LGRD and Cooperatives Minister Syed Ashraful Islam, Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister Rashed Khan Menon, Water Resources Minister Anisul Islam Mahmud, Communications Minister Obaidul Quader, Shipping Minister Shajahan Khan, Environment and Forest Minister Anwar Hossain Manju, Land Minister Shamsur Rahman Sharif, State Minister for Finance attended the meeting.
